The forests are present in Allier department. They are a heritage of the history. They were for the majority of the old fields of hunting of the family of the Bourbons. The Crown confiscated in XVI century when Charles le Connétable, Duc de Bourbon, was combined in Charles Quint, then in war against François the First, king of France. They became national forests. The forêt des Colettes is vastest of the south of the Allier department. It covers a surface of more than 2.000 hectares. It shelters in its centre one of most beautiful natural beech groves of Europe. Hiking roads will enable you to come to slacken you, to benefit from the landscapes and the large variety of fauna and the flora.
